| Over xmas week I saw quite a few films...
Sweeny Todd, a great work of art and the sort of quality I expect from Tim Burton... far greater than that of his recent works. His love affair with Depp and Helena (well, shes more than just an affair I know) has paid off in spectacular fashion and both put in amazing performances. Its strange watching a film thats almost entirely lyrical, especially one so blood thirsty but more fun than I was expecting to have in the cinema. Made the soundtrack (or entire film audio on CD) an instant purchase!
I Am Legend, wont rant on about this as it should have been so much more... simply I wasnt impressed, thought the CG was bloody awful and would have looked cheap in 1999's The Mummy. The only characters I cared about were Sam (a flippin dog) and Hank (those who have watched it will understand). The flashbacks were annoying mainly because you got the jist of where that was going early on then forced to have it played out slowly throughout the film. It was a nice idea tho Days/Weeks Later did it better... but mostly served up as a plateful of yawn. Six billion people on Earth when the infection hit? I hope Im one of the 1st to die cos if the reality is half as tedious as the film...
National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Not much to be said other than its better than the original... but still a poor mans Indiana all the same. Greatly amusing to see the 'american' perception of us brits... that and the security at Buck Palace is a doddle to bypass, but fun all the same, Cage puts on his fairly typical performance of late... so just dont expect too much yeh?
Enchanted was amazing, one of the best Disney movies made, great for any1 with half a sense of humour and able to not take things too seriously. My only gripes stem from the scene where Giselle drinks from the fish tank which made no sense as she only appeared crazy due to her perception on reality differing from that of the fantasy world, I somehow doubt drinking water with fish in every gulp is a regular occurance for her regardless of where she comes from. Oh and yeah... dragon, wrong wrong wrong... far too animated, should have opted for something more Reign of Fire esque. But otherwise brilliant and Amy Adams is a cutie.
Alien V Predator : Requiem actually manages to salvage everything WS Anderson did wrong, seriously... it takes the aspects of both aliens and predator and splatters it everywhere. Ok, so fans of either can pull it apart for all its worth but it is fairly solid and no1 not even children or pregnant women are spared the brutality. The only thing more badass than the 'Cleaner' Predator (two cannons dammit!) is the Pred-Alien which looks bitchin... a less 'sequel' demanding ending would have been preferable to say maybe tying it in with the Alien storyline, but I guess the cash cow has to be milked for all its worth. Cant win em all alas.
And finally No Country for Old Men, cant really explain much about this other than its got so much presence... its powerful and disturbing, yet runs at such a mellow pace its almost relaxing. One of my fave Coen works and would happily watch over again. Its not for everyone... but any1 who appreciates a movie with more substance should love it.
Still looking forward to Cloverfield and Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the Orphanage and now Wall*E... aside from a tonne of other things. | | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| I really dont know how I managed this... Theres a fair bit of overtime floating about my place of work and yeah, I have happily got involved. Its easy money (well... I should probably say that after getting paid for it) and gets me out of other more regular working activities, but tonight might be going a little too far!
Im a mechanical technician at a Museum of Britain and my norm is part of a 4(3)man strong shift team in a department of over 20people dealing with the fabrication and maintenance of the building. As part of our service we currently have contractors testing electrical circuits (1800 of them to be precise) throughout and it all gets done out of hours requiring someone from my lot to sit in for a 'in case of' scenario. Well I was up for it and it seems Im one of the very few who are as it means covering these guys normally between 7pm until 2am. Except today, and Im just getting ready to leave at nearly 4.30am. Thing is I was at work since 10am yesterday... and technically due back at work in little over 5hrs XD

| I have much to say... just not gonna do it right now. A few regrets, a few possibilities... tried to hard then not trying enough, for what I shouldnt have done but glad I did, and a few things I should but I just dont want to. Im bathing in uncertainty and unsure what to do about it.
A week or so... things are gonna settle down, tbh Im just holding off for that ever near chance of having something truly positive to say. I mean nothing is wrong but when you have a criteria for everything to be right and all of the boxes are rather unchecked... Its hard to know what to do with that. I have a plan... honestly I do, Im just waiting for the right time to read it. So until then....

| Well Im at months end and the past few weeks have amused me for better or worse, richer or poorer (definately the latter in this instance). I made a fairly tight budget to get thru but decided living on a few quid each day for 2weeks to be no fun at all so spending what was left on DDR and curry the weekend before last being the obviously better choice :D
Hence being literally broke since and my only saving grace being a loan from the money pot and ppl kind enough to help me out with random foodness <3. Ive come to realise that living off minimum food requirements isnt all that bad and managed to lose weight without actually feeling all that hungry... except the one day where I actually ate nothing because I refused to let any1 or anything help, but soon realised I couldnt do that for another 10days straight XD
My predicament wasnt helped by the buying of shoes (see entry several posts back) and a trip out to essex, visiting the family to see my sister... travel and flowers and balloon cost £40ish but it was so worth it to see how happy my sister was. The occassion being that she's won a scholarship to a film & tv acting college in New York for 2yrs starting this september, pending the finance of food and partly accomodation. Well I had spoilArs that she got the place so it was pretty amazing to be there when she got an 'arranged' call from the college to find out, then suprise her with the flowers... according to her Im the most amazing brother she could ever hope for, seems only right I do something to justify that comment from time to time, apparently my just being there was enough for her... pity Id already spent £25 on flowers and stuff by then :P
Still, she amazes me... shes just finishing GCSEs and only 16yrs old, her friends are mostly going to their schools 6th form whilst she leaves to live in New York for the next few years. Top girl!
So payday 2moro, Im not expecting much as Im sure my head office will use my changing of sites and job positions as a good a reason as any to mess up the tonne of overtime they owe me... and Im also sure they'd have forgotten to figure in the fact Im now supposed to be earning nearly £3k more a year. So Im half expecting a basic months pay of whatever I used to be on and a trip to head office to sort it all out... wont make june easy by any means, but I'll cope... also safe in the fact that junes payday will include all the overtime worked this month, all the overtime owed (a couple days in april, one in march and one from january!) and not only my new wage salary, but the difference back dated to the 23rd of last month. Roll on!
Meh... Im bored, late shift at work and im watching the clock til 10pm finish (9.15pm tbh).

| I brief sumise of the past 24hrs....
Worked a 12hr shift, met Adrian at 10pm and had a lil' Casino fun, went to the cinema, stole all their Redbull, ate plenty of ice cream, watched 9hrs of animé, went to McDonalds for a healthy breakfast, headed back to work, now nearly 2hrs into another 12hr shift. Roll on tomorrow! XD
Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex : Solid State Society.
Quality, a general need to know a bit about SAC is probably a given but it is a Stand Alone story (tho I havnt seen the last few discs for 2ndGIG, cant say if there's any major tie ins). Apart from characters it has very little to to with the original 2 movies but I always prefered the Stand Alone stuff anyway. Typically confusing storyline and amazing animation that comes as standard with Production IG.
4Gs... but I am a GITS SAC fanboy :P
Paprika.
Been wanting to see this for ages, distinct Perfect Blue look but a much easier film to watch... think ExistinZ but happier. Very trippy animation effects and gorgeous music throughout... and yeah, Paprika, she needs a good seeing too :D
4Gs its a beautiful film with very easy on the eye subtitles!
Highlander.
Colin Macleod of the clan Macleod... Its the subject of much debate with Adrian but this film is amazing, high quality animation and ropey accents (not a case of poor dubbing, it was made to be in 'english' to begin with). Its more Fist of the North Star than Highlander and features some of the best fights iv seen in anime, but then its animated by the same production team who put together Ninja Scroll. Dodgy 1liners and a great sense of geography, as im sure Joanne will be delighted to find out... Scotland is now 'Northern England' XD

Full Metal Alchemist Movie.
I had to give some elements of this the benefit of doubt as iv never seen any of the series so I was in the dark for near enough all the back story... and after a brief fill in im thinking there as some aspects id probably rather not see anyway. But it didnt stop this being a great film, took plenty for granted and adored the gorgeous artwork and splendid mecha design. Animé Adolf and talk of Jew genocide... who could want for more?
3.5Gs and id nob the gypsy girl.
But the highlight of the night was the consumtion of something like 10cans of Redbull in under 5hrs? It played havok with my insides and well... im still buzzing at nearly 7hrs since my last can. We're talking over 1000calories and 650mgs of caffeine in liquid form and if any1 knows what B12 is good for... I consumed about 40 times the RDA of the stuff XD

| Total Recall was on TV last night... Splendid!
Been absent from the world of intarnets for a few weeks now... nope, didnt miss it much :P
New job merrily underway, just aswell cos my finances were(are) a bit laughable... Im owed a fair chunk of overtime but today Im at a closed museum and just earnt £300pre-tax for sitting around babysitting sweetFA and browsing the net for about 5hrs, not too shabby for Rachel :D
Amused that Iv got about £170 to last me till the months end, yes buying £45 shoes may have been reckless but fuck it made me happi! And with the Animé all nighter this saturday (between 2 12hr shifts at work sat/sun) Im probably destroying my health to go with it :\
Love (or its concept) is toying with me... hormones are fucking fantastic, but even if im not doing much about it as yet, just fancying some1 is kinda nice :)

| Well... as some ppl already know Ive been doing a lot of cutting back and trust me, its not choices Ive made lightly.
Finances have deemed boarderline out of control, whilst its no more than anticipated, living in London is pretty expensive compared to what I was doing before. Ive not saved all that much on travel as I still need a Zone1-3 travelcard, about £90 cheaper than what I was paying. But other expense means Im about £400 worse off a month overall, and thats without being more sociably active than I was living out of london :P
So Ive cancelled both Manchester and Norway... and even put the holiday on 'pending' (cos tbh, thats something I still really hope I'll be able to attend). Manchester, the figures simply dont add up as Id have no peas left to last till payday XD
Norway Ive deemed as required to get finances a bit more level, Im currently just scraping from one payday to the next and last month I had to borrow a twenty :( thats just rubbish... seriously! And seeing as I owe its many peas still for my sexy bitch Naomi, cant really justify such expenditure in any way shape or form :P
The holiday Im just not commiting to yet and hope there still be a spot for me once Im certain I can afford it. I have like, 3 paydays to go until then (scary!) and the last 1 is 3weeks before the holiday itself... now last year I got paid a few days before the trip so I could pretty much use all available pennies for spending, and only had to worry for a week when I got back, not so easy this time! But I will definately 'see what I can do' so to speak.
Now all this might seem trivial should my job situation get sorted in the way Im expecting... but I'll save talk of that for another entry :D

| Ok, so its been over 5days without a proper caffine intake and tbh... its not been so bad, saying that I have had a headache for the past 24hrs so maybe thats a taste of things to come. At worst it'll pass over the next few days, painkillers wont help this even if it gets worse (last year was horrible) but so far it hasnt been as intense as I expected which probably has something to do with the fact that whilst I do indeed enjoy my tea and coffee... im certainly not drinking as much as I was over a year ago :D
I'll still drink coke/pepsi as need arises, but tbh its not often I drink either lately... but I will generally avoid stuff like Red Bull (which will make TG very interesting).
Yesterday I visited the Isle of Wight's tiger sanctury with (and on the advice of) my friend (who happens to be an ex-girlfriend) Amanda. It was a lovely day that not even the remarkably shitty weather and london transport service could spoil (90mins for South Ealing to Waterloo, I kid you not!). Made my way down to Guildford where Amanda picked me up in her car and drove us down to the ferry port in Portsmouth, a short ferry ride later and we were driving our way to Sandown.

Its hardly a zoo tbh, but the tigers are so beautiful I was hardly gonna compain, a few hours were spent here mostly chatting and admiring the kitty cats, she probably has a bigger passion for it than myself but I can see why Mandy loves it so. Had a nice chat with Keith (the tigers keeper) and it turns out he's quite the Warcraft fag... is no1 to be spared? :\
Headed back for our ferry stopping off to get Subway (and I seriously didnt mess about, I think my sandwich cost nearly £7) and made our way back to the mainland and then northbound for Aldershot. A nice evening was spent chatting about pretty much anything and sex was a frequent topic of conversation letting thoughts run wild, well sometimes its good to think bad. We behaved ourselves.... just :P
Im glad we've kept as friends, towards the end of our relationship I was hardly a great boyfriend but its nice that aftertime we can talk pretty openly with each other and still enjoy each others company :)
Today I was lazy... did next to nowt 'cept bum around on the intArnet when I really should have been doing Japanese work (I wont mention my level of completion reached, I should probably just go hang myself in shame) and saw both Dungeons & Dragons and Bill n Ted's Bogus Journey on tv, both Iv seen before and both are terrible films with Bill n Ted's only mark of redeem being that they are still Bill n Ted, two totally excellent time travelers :D
Tonight I watched New Police Story with Lap. Its enjoyable although we had to watch it dubbed, this in itself I didnt mind if only to bring back memories of watching comically dubbed Jackie Chan films in my younger years. The biggest problem for me was that it really wasnt a Police Story film... it was slick, modern with medium levels of intended comedy and so amazingly over the top it boarder lines ridiculous. It didnt feel like a Police Story film but moreso watching something like Gen-X Cops... as it turns out both these films had the same director and the main lead actor from Gen-X played Jackie's partner in this and Jackie Chan cameos in Gen-X and had a lot to do with the films production.
Its a fun film, I would just have rathered it wasnt called Police Story :P
This week doesnt have much planned... so we'll see what it brings. I really must pop to the cinema at some point tho!
